Engkau adalah Mesias, Anak Allah yang hidup!

Tahukah saya, pernyataan Petrus ini mewakili iman dari ke 12 murid Yesus kepadaNya disaat yang lain mulai meragukannya ?

Kebenaran yang diaku Petrus ini adalah dasar dari iman orang percaya , juga sebagai hidup yang kekal ?

Lalu Yesus bertanya kepada mereka: "Tetapi apa katamu, siapakah Aku ini?" Maka jawab Simon Petrus: "Engkau adalah Mesias, Anak Allah yang hidup!". Matius 16:15, 16. {CC 311.1}

Sejak awal, Petrus percaya bahwa Yesus adalah Mesias. Banyak orang lain yang telah diyakinkan oleh khotbah Yohanes Pembaptis, dan telah menerima Kristus, mulai meragukan misi Yohanes ketika dia dipenjara dan dihukum mati; dan mereka sekarang ragu bahwa Yesus adalah Mesias, yang telah lama mereka nantikan .... 

Tetapi Petrus dan teman-temannya tidak berpaling dari kesetiaan mereka. Sikap ragu-ragu dari mereka yang memuji kemarin dan mengutuk hari ini tidak menghancurkan iman pengikut sejati Juruselamat .... {CC 311.2}

Petrus telah mengungkapkan iman kedua belas murid itu. Namun para murid masih jauh dari memahami misi Kristus. Penentangan dan representasi yang keliru dari para imam dan penguasa, tidak membuat mereka menjauh dari Kristus, masih menyebabkan mereka sangat bingung .... 

Dari waktu ke waktu sinar terang yang berharga dari Yesus menyinari mereka, namun seringkali mereka seperti orang yang meraba-raba di antara bayang-bayang. 

Tetapi pada hari ini, sebelum mereka dihadapkan pada ujian besar iman mereka, Roh Kudus bersemayam di atas mereka dalam kuasa. Untuk sesaat mata mereka berpaling dari “apa yang terlihat,” untuk melihat “apa yang tidak terlihat” (2 Korintus 4:18). Di balik kedok kemanusiaan mereka melihat kemuliaan Anak Allah .... {CC 311.3}

Kebenaran yang diaku Petrus adalah dasar dari iman orang percaya. 

Itulah yang Kristus sendiri nyatakan sebagai hidup yang kekal. 

Tetapi memiliki pengetahuan ini bukanlah dasar untuk mengagungkan diri sendiri. Tidak ada hikmat atau kebaikannya sendiri yang diungkapkan kepada Petrus. 

Tidak pernah bisa manusia, dengan sendirinya, mencapai pengetahuan tentang yang ilahi. “Itu setinggi surga; apa yang dapat kamu lakukan? lebih dalam dari neraka; apa yang bisa kamu ketahui? ” (Ayub 11: 8). Hanya semangat adopsi yang dapat mengungkapkan kepada kita hal-hal yang mendalam tentang Allah, yang "tidak dilihat mata, tidak didengar, dan tidak masuk ke dalam hati manusia". 

“Allah telah mengungkapkannya kepada kita melalui Roh-Nya; karena Roh menyelidiki segala sesuatu, ya, hal-hal yang dalam dari Allah ”(1 Korintus 2: 9, 10) .1 {CC 311.4}

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16:15, 16. {CC 311.1}

From the first, Peter had believed Jesus to be the Messiah. Many others who had been convicted by the preaching of John the Baptist, and had accepted Christ, began to doubt as to John’s mission when he was imprisoned and put to death; and they now doubted that Jesus was the Messiah, for whom they had looked so long.... But Peter and his companions turned not from their allegiance. The vacillating course of those who praised yesterday and condemned today did not destroy the faith of the true follower of the Saviour.... {CC 311.2}

Peter had expressed the faith of the twelve. Yet the disciples were still far from understanding Christ’s mission. The opposition and misrepresentation of the priests and rulers, while it could not turn them away from Christ, still caused them great perplexity.... From time to time precious rays of light from Jesus shone upon them, yet often they were like men groping among shadows. But on this day, before they were brought face to face with the great trial of their faith, the Holy Spirit rested upon them in power. For a little time their eyes were turned away from “the things which are seen,” to behold “the things which are not seen” (2 Corinthians 4:18). Beneath the guise of humanity they discerned the glory of the Son of God.... {CC 311.3}

The truth which Peter had confessed is the foundation of the believer’s faith. It is that which Christ Himself has declared to be eternal life. But the possession of this knowledge was no ground for self-glorification. Through no wisdom or goodness of his own had it been revealed to Peter. Never can humanity, of itself, attain to a knowledge of the divine. “It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?” (Job 11:8). Only the spirit of adoption can reveal to us the deep things of God, which “eye hath not seen, not ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man.” “God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10).1 {CC 311.4}
